3 month 19th 1845

Joseph Bell called this morning and informs me that he has procured employment in Brooklyn with John Roff seal skin draper and that he is to go to work the 24th. Joseph represents that he is in want of a shirt and some other necessaries – Lent him one dollar and fifty cents -

Dorcas Conway 24 years old - was born in England - has been in this country three years – has been confined on Blackwells Island two months for intemperance and was discharged this morning. She is intirely destitute and applied for admission into the Almshouse, but was refused. I made application on her behalf, when her request was granted.

21st

Francis H Jones, to whom four dollars was loaned to pay for board, called and says that he is not unmindfull of his obligation to return the money borrowed, but the person with whom he boards has been sick and is in arrears for rent – Francis asks for a little further indulgence. He is employed at three dollars a week and he and his employer are mutually satisfied with each other.

Sent Joseph Bell one dollar to purchase a knife to use in his business – see opisite page.

Paid to Dr Parmly one dollar received of Eliza Robbins see page 10 – And also ten dollars 25/100 received of Nathan B Morse of Brooklyn, see page 11

25th

John Carr, aged twenty one years – was born in Manhattanville was placed with Hiram Ridley, Tailor 154 Delancy St. an apprentice but ran away in the year 1840. was sentenced in this city for grand larceny for the time of three years – served his time out at Sing Sing and was discharged the 18th instant. He has an uncle residing at No 175
